About

Federico Protto

Federico Protto is an artist living and working between Vienna (AT), Berlin (DE), and Brussels (BE).

His main background revolves around fashion design including a variety of inputs and outputs such as creative direction, styling, performance and music, costume, and stage design, (fashion) photography, illustration and graphic works, as well as theoretical work concluding in workshops and teaching methodologies.

He has been active in cross-disciplinary projects and collectives such as the art collective OLIVER, artistic activism project CARE, and creative collaborations with various designers and artists such as Agnes Varnai (Vienna/Budapest) and Stefan Cantante (London/Berlin).

His vision is a symbiosis between all different aspects to evoke creative freedom, aiming for (self-)sustainability and horizontality within the artistic realms: rejecting the conventional processes of the fashion industry and stepping into all the fields of the spectrum, he strengthens the bond between the Dasein as young fashion designers in the 21st century and the existing possibilities and targets a precarious capitalistic reality.

Federico Protto graduated from the University of Applied Arts, Vienna in 2017 under the professorship of Hussein Chalayan and Bernhard Willhelm.

He worked for the designers Michael Sontag, Berlin, Hildur Yeoman, Reykjavik, and Marques’Almeida, London. Furthermore, he held a teaching position in the Felszabter Rajziskola in Budapest with his course on ‘fashion & creative triggering’ and was co-founder and creative director of the publication ARACHNE ALMANAC for the University of Applied Arts, Vienna in collaboration with Dr. Monica Titton and the fashion department of the institution
